Prezentacja

Abstract: In this talk, I will explain how a machine learning model, the Restricted Boltzmann Machine (RBM), can be extended by exploiting the sampling capabilities of two generations of the D-Wave quantum annealers (2000Q and Advantage). The RBM is a stochastic machine learning model that can model the underlying probability distribution of a given data set. However, training of an RBM encounters some challenges due to the exponential number of possible states. While in the classical case this leads to the need for additional assumptions in the learning algorithm, the use of quantum sampling copes well without them, as the QUBO model is built and the quantum annealing process is able to accurately sample the probability distribution. Experiments have been performed on the well-known MNIST dataset of images on which the behaviour of quantum RBM has been studied. The selected experiments explore the capabilities of the quantum annealer such as speed, capacity or reliability of the quantum machine as well as include an interesting analysis of the chain strength parameter to control the learning process. Further experiments are planned with the usage of IBM quantum computers as Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC) has become an official IBM Quantum Hub by launching the IBM Quantum Hub in February of 2022. Bio: Mateusz Slysz is a graduate of the Poznan University of Technology with a master's degree in computer science, and holds a bachelor's degree in physics from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. His diversified academic background allowed him to gain professional experience both as a software developer and in the world of academia in cooperation with the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Krakow. Currently he participates in a PhD programme at Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC), where he is a member of a research team creating software and conducting computational experiments using quantum machines. Working at PSNC - one of the leaders of quantum transformation in Poland, allows him to develop his interests related to many different areas of quantum technologies as well as machine learning and optimization problems.
