AGH University of Science and Technology together with the Kosciuszko Institute Receives Motorola Solutions Foundation Grant

AGH University of Science and Technology together with the Kosciuszko Institute, today announced it has received a grant for 45 000 USD from the Motorola Solutions Foundation, the charitable arm of Motorola Solutions.

Through the grant, AGH University of Science and Technology (AGH) together with the Kosciuszko Institute (KI) will conduct the GIRLS go CYBER project which will help to bring more women into the ICT sector with a special focus on cybersecurity. The project is slated to engage 60 women in hands-on tech & engineering activities (programming & cybersecurity training). It will also broaden their understanding of cybersecurity issues from a non-tech perspective.

The Motorola Solutions Foundation awards grants each year to organizations such as AGH and KI, which support and advance public safety programs and technology and engineering education initiatives.

In Poland, the IT workforce gap is estimated at 50,000 specialists. According to forecasts, the market shortage in Europe will reach one million people in 2020. When it comes to cybersecurity female experts, global statistics are equally troublesome. Some estimates say that women represent 20% of the global cybersecurity workforce in 2019. With cybersecurity rising in importance as a backbone of our national security, society, economy, this workforce shortage must be overcome. By launching the GIRLS go CYBER project, we aim to contribute to solving these problems and give women the skills and knowledge necessary to enter the game. The Motorola Solutions Foundation focuses its funding on STEM education, specifically focused on technology and engineering, as well as public safety education programs around the globe. Received funding will enable our organization to equip students with the tools to excel through cybersecurity skills and knowledge and start their careers in this exciting field – said Joanna Świątkowska, the project coordinator.

This year, Motorola Solutions Foundation grants will support programs that help more than 2 million students, teachers, first responders and community members around the globe. There is a specific focus on providing grants to programs that impact underrepresented populations, including females, minorities, people with disabilities, veterans and others.

“We are very pleased to support the work of AGH and KI,” said Monica Mueller, executive director of the Motorola Solutions Foundation. “We believe in organizations that foster innovation and drive change, and we’re proud to be part of the positive impact they are making in the community.”
